'America has always been great, and we don’t want to go back' | Supporters gather for Kamala Harris watch party

At McGuinty’s Public House, supporters cheered on Kamala Harris as she accepted the Democratic party nomination for President.

SILVER SPRING, Md. — As the Democratic National Convention was underway in Chicago for night four, a Kamala Harris watch party was taking place in downtown Silver Spring.

At McGuinty’s Public House a group of supporters gathered to cheer on Kamala Harris as she accepted the Democratic party nomination for President.

Kim Musheno, a resident of Silver Spring, said she came out to enjoy the evening with friends. “It’s really fun, it’s great to be with all of my friends who are celebrating Democracy.”

For Ben Slade, the outing was all about the atmosphere and opportunity to root for a candidate he hopes will win the presidency. “She’s rolled out a campaign based on character, experience and judgement. Joy is the theme, and it’s just so refreshing to see,” said Slade.

As Harris's campaign builds momentum this week, WUSA9 asked people what advice they would give her to keep it going through the election season.

“Don’t take anything for granted! Anyone who loves Democracy, get them to vote this election,” said Daniel Caroma.

Musheno believes Harris needs to continue doing what she’s currently doing.

“Keep telling the truth and keep talking about freedom and reclaiming patriotism and pride in our country,” said Musheno. “America is great. America has always been great, and we don’t want to go back.”

Michelle Curcio, one of the event organizers and volunteers with the Democratic National Committee, says she began volunteering this summer. She says she appreciates the inclusivity of the Harris campaign.

“I do like that she is a really strong person. She wants people to feel heard,” said Curcio.
