HOLLYWOOD, Md. — A shed that caught fire in St. Mary's County has resulted in the seizure of dozens of weapons and a large quantity of ammunition by the sheriff's department.
According to authorities, deputies were called to a home in the 42000 block of St. Johns Road in Hollywood to help the fire department with a shed fire. Fire crews reported ammunition exploding inside the shed as they were working to extinguish the flames.
In the process of bringing the fire under control, firefighters discovered dozens of firearms in the shed. Sheriff's deputies executed a search and seizure warrant on the home as a result of the fire department's discovery.
The Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Division worked with the Office of the State Fire Marshal, Department of Natural Resources Police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives to seize numerous firearms and large quantities of ammunition.
The sheriff's office says the investigation is ongoing and no charges have been filed.
