SILVER SPRING, Md. — A man has been charged with abuse of his 85-year-old father.
George McGrath, a 55-year-old Silver Spring Md. man is the primary caregiver of the victim and was arrested in relation to the abuse.
Detectives were contacted Monday by Montgomery County Adult Protective Services regarding possible elder abuse that'd occurred a week prior. Investigators met with the victim at a local hospital while he was being treated for injuries, a Montgomery County Police press release said.
According to police, McGrath assaulted the victim multiple times while in the victim's home.
The victim sustained a head injury, and McGrath neglected to seek out medical aid for the victim, according to the release.
A further investigation determined that friends of the victim checked on him after being concerned. The friends told police they observed a "cut on the victim's head and that he had extensive bruising about his arms and head," the press release said.
The victim's friends took the him to a hospital for treatment. Additionally, the victim’s friends told detectives they observed that the victim’s home was not being maintained, and there was minimal food in the refrigerator.
Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for McGrath Tuesday, and charged him with the following, the release said:
- Once count of vulnerable adult abuse of a family member
- Reckless endangerment
- Second-degree assault
