Police: Man sexually assaults 1 woman, attempts to rob another in Gaithersburg

Within 30 minutes on Sept. 14, police had two calls for assault on the Bethesda Trolly Trail.

GAITHERSBURG, Md. — Montgomery County Police are searching for a man accused of sexually assaulting a woman and attempting to rob another woman on the Bethesda Trolly Trail within 30 minutes.

The first victim told officers she was walking her dog at 9:45 p.m. along Woodglen Drive and Executive Blvd. She stopped to let her dog play in the grass when she noticed a man walking towards her. She said she continued tending to her dog when the suspect approached her, and sexually assaulted her. Before she could fight back, the man rode off on an electric scooter.

Then, 30 minutes later officers received a frantic call from another woman who said she had been physically assaulted on the Bethesda Trolly Trail. When police arrived, the victim told officers she was walking along the trail and could see a man sitting on a bench up ahead. As she passed by the bench, the man began talking to her. Then, before she knew what was going on, the man grabbed onto her purse and attacked her. He wasn’t able to take any of her belongings, before riding away towards Tuckerman Lane on an electric scooter.

The victim told police her attacker was 6-feet tall, 190 pounds had dark hair, and was wearing glasses.

The victim sustained some injuries from the attack, none of which were life-threatening. She was transported to an area hospital for further examination.

Law enforcement has now released a composite sketch of the man believed to be responsible for both crimes. Police are asking if you see this man or have any information regarding him or his whereabouts to contact the Montgomery County Crime Solvers 1-866-411-8477 or head over to their website.
