SILVER SPRING, Md. — Police in Silver Spring are working to figure out what led up to a shooting that left one man dead and two others in the hospital late Monday night. One person has been taken into custody for the shooting who is not a suspect at this time

Montgomery County Police officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 14300 block of Fairdale Road just before 11 p.m. That's in a residential neighborhood, near Fairland Elementary School.

Once on scene, they found one man had been shot and was pronounced dead. Another man, who had also been shot, was found outside. Police described his injuries as non-life-threatening. He was taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries, the extent of which are unknown.

A short time later, police say a third man was found, also shot. He has been taken to the hospital. His current condition is not known.

Police say one person is in custody in connection to this shooting. Police have determined that this person is not a suspect at this time.

Additionally, a Montgomery County Police cruiser with extensive damage was spotted by WUSA9 reporters at the scene. The cruiser was loaded onto a tow truck and taken away. It is still unclear how or if that cruiser is connected to the shooting investigation.
