SILVER SPRING, Md. — A woman died after a two-vehicle crash in Silver Spring on Monday. Another person involved in the crash is also being treated and is expected to survive.
At 2:45 p.m., the crash was first reported on X, formally known as Twitter, by a spokesperson for the Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Service.
The spokesperson said two cars were involved in the crash and two people were taken to area hospitals for help after it.
One person, later identified as 77-year-old Maria Perdomo, of Silver Spring, died following the crash. The other person was hospitalized and is expected to survive.
The intersection of Layhill Road and Bonifant Road closed following the collision. The road has since reopened.
Investigators determined that Perdomo was making a left turn from northbound Layhill Road onto westbound Bel Pre Road when she collided with another car heading south on Layhill Road. Perdomo was pronounced dead at the scene.
This is an active and ongoing investigation and CRU detectives are asking for anyone who may have witnessed the collision to call (240) 773-6620.
