GAITHERSBURG, Md. — A Silver Spring man has been indicted by a Montgomery County jury on charges related to a deadly crash in January 2023. Aaron Givens, 33, turned himself in to police on March 4. A warrant charged him with negligent homicide by vehicle in connection to the street racing crash that left 28-year-old Romario Coke dead.
According to investigators, officers were called to the area of West Gude Drive and Watkins Pond Boulevard, near King Farm Stream Valley Park in Rockville for a crash. An initial investigation found that Coke was speeding in his 2018 Infiniti Q50 when he lost control and struck a tree in the median while heading eastbound on West Gude Drive. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives later learned that Coke was speeding because he was racing with Givens, who was in a blue 1500 TRX pickup at the time.
Police say Givens has been released on an unsecured personal bond.
