Prince George's County listening tour to provide a forum for residents to address public safety

The listening tour will be held in the communities of Brandywine, Hyattsville and Largo throughout this week.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, Md. — A countywide listening tour aims to provide Prince George's County residents with the opportunity to express their concerns and recommendations on public safety.

The tour will take place in the communities of Brandywine, Hyattsville, and Largo throughout the week, and was spearheaded by council members Wanika Fisher from District 2 and at-large Calvin S. Hawkins, II, who seek to bring together residents and lawmakers.

Each session will last about an hour and a half from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., and will be held at the following locations:

  • Brandywine, March 11 - Southern Area Aquatics and Recreation Complex (SAARC)

  • Hyattsville, March 13 – Hyattsville Branch Library

  • Largo, March 14 – Wayne K. Curry Administration Building

Council Vice Chair Sydney Harrison (District 9) will join the tour at the Brandywine location.

"Public safety is a priority for the Council, and the listening tours provide an opportunity to hear residents' concerns and perspectives on matters integral to their overall well-being," Fisher, who serves as the chair for Human Services and Public Safety Committee (HHSPS), said. "Through open dialogue and constructive feedback, we hope to gain valuable insight into different communities' unique challenges and priorities, which will help us develop the most effective policies moving forward," she continued.

Councilmember Hawkins, who co-chairs the HHSPS, said including residents in the conversation is essential to effectively addressing public safety concerns.

"Residents represent an invaluable resource in our efforts to effectively address public safety," Hawkins said. "Their perspectives and insights will only enrich the discussion and ultimately lead to more informed, targeted, and impactful approaches to improving public safety. I look forward to hearing what they have to say."
