LANDOVER HILLS, Md. — A 31-year-old woman has been arrested and charged with attempted murder in connection to five random attacks in Prince George's County. These attacks include two stabbings and four hit-and-runs that happened over the course of an hour and a half on Thursday night.
Tanay Stallings-Brown, of Baltimore, is charged with dozens of offenses including attempted first degree murder, assault and additional charges related to hitting pedestrians.
On Thursday, just before 8:15 p.m., police tweeted out a photo of a person of interest they believe to be connected to the crime spree. They have now confirmed the woman to be Stallings-Brown.
Here's how it all unfolded:
At 5:05 p.m. officers were dispatched to the Forest Park Drive and Ritchie Road in Capitol Heights for reports of a pedestrian struck. Preliminary reports reveal that the driver of the car went up the sidewalk and struck the victim. The victim has not been identified, but police say she is an adult woman, who suffered minor injuries.
At 5:15 p.m. officers were called to 20 Ritchie Road in Landover, Maryland for two pedestrians struck. Similar to the crash in Capitol Heights, the driver got up on the sidewalk and ran over the two pedestrians. In this case, the driver of the car got out and stabbed one of the victims. The stabbing victim was identified as a 15-year-old who suffered critical injuries. The man hit by the vehicle sustained minor injuries.
At 5:30 p.m. officers arrived to the 1400 block of Addison Road South in Capitol Heights for another pedestrian struck. One adult male suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Minutes later, calls came in for a fifth pedestrian struck along the 1000 block of Addison Road South. The man struck suffered minor injuries.
At 6:35 p.m. police rushed to the 9100 block of Annapolis Road in Lanham for calls of a stabbing at a gas station. When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from multiple stab wounds. He was taken to a nearby hospital with critical injuries. Preliminary investigation shows that Stallings-Brown spoke with the man believed to be a cab driver and pretended to need a ride. Once inside of the vehicle, Stallings-Brown stabbed the driver multiple times.
At 10:50 p.m. Baltimore police located and arrested Stallings-Brown and transported her back to Prince George's County to be charged.
Police say they have not recovered the weapon used in the stabbings.
During a press conference held Friday evening, Prince George's County Chief of Police Malik Aziz said they do not have a motive at this time. But, Stallings-Brown does have a record dating back to 2011 in the city of Baltimore.
Baltimore Police confirmed that Stallings-Brown was the suspect in another stabbing assault on Wednesday. Officers were dispatched to the 5300 block of Valiquet Avenue, when they arrived they found a woman suffering from multiple life-threatening stab wounds. The victim was transported to the hospital and has since been released.
In 2016 Stallings-Brown was arrested and charged with possession of a handgun and sentenced to three years probation. In 2018 she was arrested for second-degree assault. Stallings-Brown was found guilty and sentenced to 90-days in jail.
Deputy Chief McCreary joined the force 20 years ago and said he hasn't seen something like this since the DC Sniper when he was growing up.
"This is very concerning, very frightening, which is why we wanted to alert the public immediately."
Stallings-Brown will appear in court for the first time on Monday, January 29 at 1:15 p.m.
The investigation into this crime is active and ongoing. Prince George's County Police are currently searching for anyone else who may have been a victim in Thursday's violent rampage.
