MARYLAND, USA — New polling suggests that Angela Alsobrooks has a small, but solid lead over former Maryland Governor Larry Hogan. With 12 days to go both candidates are hitting the trail to push their brand of ‘retail politics’ and connect with voters.
“It’s a competitive race so we have been working really hard,” Alsobrooks said. “I was out this morning at the Metro at seven in the morning talking to commuters.”
Alsobrooks welcomed supporters outside the Bowie City gymnasium where early voting kicked off. Voters stopped by before and after casting their ballots to talk with the Senate hopeful.
“I got a text saying she would be here at 5:30pm and I wanted to meet her,” Tiffany Young of Bowie said.
“I’m voting for all the Democrats, and I really like her policies,” Young explained. “Pro-choice is such a big issue I support.”
“I want to vote for candidates who care about the people,” Trinity Carpenter told WUSA9. Even though she wouldn’t say who she voted for she had positive thoughts on Alsobrooks.
“I do know that Angela has a good track record for doing great things in her community,” she said.
Alsobrooks hung out and chatted with voters and supporters for the evening, leaving them with a clear message on the election.
“We are voting for the future we deserve and desire,” she said.
“It’s really about me reaching those undecided voters,” former Governor Larry Hogan said from a rally at the Anne Arundel County Firefighters Union.
“Naturally, I’m hoping he wins,” retired firefighter Dave Kauffman said.
Kauffman has already heard about the latest poll showing Hogan lagging Alsobrooks.
“I just wish more people would look at the candidate themselves,” he said. “Instead of what letter they have behind their names.”
“I’m a Democrat,” Colin Pascal told us during the rally. “I think Governor Hogan is part of a bridge that can bring the two parties together.”
The question to the popular former Governor is can he find a bridge for the polling gap?
“Back in 2014 the week before the election they came out with a poll that said we were 12 points down and we won by 5,” he said. “We shocked the world and I think this is gonna be similar.”
