Police searching for 2 men accused of an armed carjacking in Hyattsville

"No property is worth risking your life," the police department said.

HYATTSVILLE, Md. — Officers with the Hyattsville Police Department are searching for the suspects who stole a black Mercedes at gunpoint Friday afternoon. 

The armed carjacking happened around 1 p.m. on East-West Highway, nearby Toledo Road. The victim informed police that two men, one who was armed with a handgun, approached him as he was getting into his car.

The two then demanded he get out of his car, the victim complied, and then they drove away in the westbound direction on East-West Highway. The victim reported that the two men were masked at the time of the incident and wearing dark clothing.

The victim’s car has been described as a black 2017 Mercedes S550. It was last seen on Ager Road and Powhatan Road.

"No property is worth risking your life," the police department said. "In this case, the victim did the right thing by complying and calling 911 as soon as it was safe to do so."

The investigation is active and ongoing. Hyattsville Police are asking anyone with information to call 301-985-5060.
