Police are searching for person accused of stealing 6 Christmas trees from tree lot in Takoma Park

Someone might have earned themselves a lump of coal this year for this holiday crime.

TAKOMA PARK, Md. — Many people wonder 'How the Grinch Stole Christmas' and this holiday season Takoma Park is at the center of those allegations. That's right - in Maryland, a person is wanted for stealing Christmas trees.

Officers with the Takoma Park Police Department responded to Ethan Allen Avenue, near Carroll Avenue, just before 3 p.m. on Tuesday after a report about the stolen trees. The police department was able to determine that six Christmas trees, valued around $400, were stolen from the Takoma Park Volunteer Fire Department's tree lot.

The fire department's tree lot is where they hold their annual fundraiser to raise money for fire department volunteer services. According to the police department, the theft happened some time between Dec. 5 or 6 between the hours of 8 p.m. and 4:30 a.m.

The investigation into the Grinch-like heist is still under investigation by the police department. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to please call us at 301-270-1100.
