Woman assaulted, robbed at gunpoint on Interstate 495

Investigators believe the woman may have been specifically targeted.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, Md. — A woman was robbed and assaulted at gunpoint early Thursday on Interstate 495 in Prince George's County, sparking an investigation.

Troopers with the Maryland State Police Department's College Park Barrack responded to the outer loop of the interstate around 2:30 a.m. after a report of the armed robbery.

Through an initial investigation, they found out that a woman was driving on Route 1 near Ikea Way when she noticed a dark vehicle following her. The suspect vehicle then struck her car as they entered the outer loop of I-495 from Route 1, and they then attempted to run her vehicle off the road. Before that could happen she pulled over in the area of I-495 and Riggs Road.

Once this happened, multiple people got out of the vehicle, approached the woman, then robbed and assaulted her at gunpoint before leaving the area. Investigators believe the woman may have been specifically targeted.

Anyone with information on this case are asked to contact the Maryland State Police College Park Barrack at 301-345-3101. The case remains under investigation.
