Seeing his photograph on the cover of Time Magazine still feels like a dream to Devin Allen.
During the Freddie Gray riots in April, Allen captured a man, out of focus, running from a crowd of police officers. After he uploaded it to Instagram, it caught Time's eye. They eventually used as the cover photo for their issue about the riots.
Now his photo is getting attention again, this time as one of Time's best magazine covers of the year.
"It was amazing not just for me, but for my city; showing us how even the little people can change the world," Allen told Time.
During an interview with WUSA9, Allen said he does not consider himself a journalist and prefers the term "dialogue creator."
"The most important thing is that it [the magazine cover] has put me in a position to help my community," Allen said. "I have started my own photography outreach program working with the youth on Penn-North. I thought it was an OK picture but I did not know how powerful it was."
Other magazine covers on Time's list included the photo of Caitlyn Jenner for Vanity Fair and the photo of Bill Cosby's accusers for New York Magazine.
