Police, firefighters respond to deadly Frederick car fire on I-70

An investigation is underway after a person died in a car fire on Interstate-70 in Frederick, Md.

FREDERICK, Md. — A car fire Tuesday morning in Frederick County on Interstate-70 has taken the life of one person, according to Maryland State Police (MSP). 

The crash happened when the driver of a Ford Taurus was heading east on I-70. After the car went off the road and came to a stop in Little Catoctin Creek, the car caught on fire with the driver stuck inside, MSP said. 

The driver who was killed has not been identified by officials. 

Currently, a crash reconstruction is being conducted by MSP troopers.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2004 Ford Taurus had been traveling east on I-70 near Harmony Road.
