75-year-old man struck, killed crossing street in Silver Spring

The driver remained at the crash location and the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

SILVER SPRING, Md. — A man crossing the road in Montgomery County, Maryland on Thursday was struck and killed by a driver, according to police

Detectives have since opened an investigation into the incident. 

Around 1:28 p.m. on March 16, police claim a man was crossing the northbound lanes of Columbia Pike in a westbound direction on foot, when he was struck by a Ford Explorer traveling north.

Investigators say the driver of the Ford remained at the scene following the crash and the man struck was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The victim has since been identified as 75-year-old Teklu Bushen Siba of Silver Spring.

Due to the collision investigation, both directions of Columbia Pike at Stewart Lane were closed to traffic for multiple hours. The road has since reopened.

The investigation into this case is active and ongoing.
