Police: Pedestrian hit, killed by a flatbed truck on I-270 in Montgomery Co. after SUV becomes disabled

A person died Friday morning after being struck and killed by a vehicle on Interstate-270.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. — A man was killed after being hit by a flatbed truck on Interstate-270 Friday morning around 5:30 a.m., according to Mongomery County officials.

Maryland State Police said Ray Blanton, 33, died after being hit while looking to cross the interstate on foot after his 2015 Ford Explorer became disabled on the side of I-270, north of the Shady Grove Road exit

An investigation by MSP showed that Blanton struck a concrete median with his Explorer, which may have led to his left front tire become flat. The SUV was reportedly on a jack when Banton was hit be the flatbed.

Police are not sure why Blanton was trying to cross the road from his car stuck on the right shoulder of I-270.

The driver of the flatbed truck did stay at the scene of the crash and cooperated with police, MSP said.

Northbound lanes in this area of I-270 were closed because of a police investigation.

Blanton is from Rockville, according to MSP.

Police urge anyone who may have witnessed this crash to contact Rockville Barrack at 301-424-2101.  This investigation is active and ongoing.
