1 dead after motorcycle crash with deer in Hagerstown, Maryland

An advisory to Maryland drivers was released recently in preparation for the fall as deer activity increases and daylight becomes limited as the time changes.

HAGERSTOWN, Md. — A crash involving a motorcycle and a deer left one person dead in Hagerstown, Maryland Wednesday morning, according to police.

Troopers with the Maryland State Police responded to the area of Sharpsburg Pike and Taylors Landing Road around 7 a.m. after receiving a report of a single-vehicle crash.

Through an initial investigation, police determined that a 2011 Suzuki M109 R motorcycle was traveling south on Sharpsburg Pike in the area of Taylors Landing Road. The motorist then struck a deer, which led to the crash.

Police said the driver of the motorcycle, identified as 58-year-old Mark Anthony Deangelis, was pronounced dead at the scene.

No other injuries were reported as a result of the crash. The Sharpsburg Pike was temporarily closed as a result of the incident.

The crash remains under investigation by police.

An advisory to Maryland drivers was released recently in preparation for the fall as deer activity increases and daylight becomes limited as the time changes. Deer activity increases due to mating season beginning for white-tailed deer during this time of the year, meaning they are more likely to enter roadways, according to a statement from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.
