MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. — The Montgomery County Board of Education is conducting a nationwide search for the next superintendent of Montgomery County Public Schools. To ensure the best candidate is chosen, the Board has hired a search firm to recruit and vet all potential candidates.
Before the board moves forward with a search firm, they want to touch base with the community and learn what characteristics they believe the future superintendent should have. The new superintendent will be responsible for preparing students to be successful in college, their careers, and upstanding members of the community. The board will also meet with Montgomery County stakeholders to gather their inputs.
Everyone’s input will then be gathered and added to the board’s strategic priorities. Characteristics of the next superintendent will be collected through multiple channels.
A website that will provide updates on the search process
A survey is available to students, staff, and the community to add characteristics they feel the next superintendent should have when the Board is considering candidates.

“It is crucial that we secure a highly qualified superintendent who shares our commitment to student success and who will work tirelessly toward that end. I urge all members of our community to participate in the public engagement process to ensure that their voices are heard and that we select a superintendent who reflects the values and priorities of our diverse community," Karla Silvestre, President of Montgomery County Board of Education, said.
The next MCPS superintendent is expected to assume the role on July 1, 2024.
