ROCKVILLE, Md. — Montgomery County Public Schools are hosting their 16th annual Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) college fair Friday evening.
At the fair, there will be 41 HBCUs represented as well as 25 other organizations.
WUSA9's Wisdom Martin talked to Dr. Karen Crews, director of student well-being and achievement for Montgomery County Schools, about the event. She says that they want students to be informed about HBCUs.
"We don’t want any student to leave an MCPS high school and say they didn’t know anything about what an HBCU is, what is a historically Black college and university," Dr. Crews. "This is an event we do every year. We do this for students 8th grade through 12th grade deliberately so that students can learn about HBCUs.”
Representatives at the event will share information and answer questions from students and parents about admissions, financial aid, testing, majors, among other topics. The event will also feature a college preparation workshop for middle school students and parents, a discussion on college life, FAFSA completion assistance, and scholarship information.
The event is from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Universities at Shady Grove, located on Gudelsky Drive, in Rockville. It is free to attend.
