MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. — The Montgomery County Police Department has closed 100% of their homicide cases that have been investigated in 2022, with the recent indictment of a 19-year-old, according to their own announcement Tuesday.

The police department said that Kyler Mcroy, of Gaithersburg, was indicted with first-degree murder for the Feb. 10, 2022 homicide of 19-year-old Keon Jones.

On the day of the incident, officers responded to Cinnamon Drive and Mustard Seed Court after a report of a shooting in the area. At the scene, officers found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. Life-saving measures were performed until fire and rescue arrived at the scene to take him to a local hospital. He was in critical condition at the time.

Jones, of Germantown, was pronounced dead due to his injuries at the hospital on Feb. 11.

Through a continued investigation, detectives on the case were able to identify Mcroy as a suspect. On Oct. 27, the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office indicted Mcroy with first-degree murder.

This is an active and ongoing investigation.

Detectives from the Major Crimes Division are asking anyone who has information about this homicide to call the Major Crimes Division at 240-773-5070 or contact Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-8477. Callers can remain anonymous.
