Md. man arrested for cutting man's throat

Police arrested a man Monday for stabbing a man in his neck on April 7 in Frederick, Md.

FREDERICK, Md. (WUSA9) -- Police arrested a man Monday for stabbing a man in his neck on April 7 in Frederick, Md.

Frederick Police Department said the stabbing happened in the 1400 block of Key Parkway Frederick, Md. around 7:53 p.m.

Deputies found an man with a significant knife wound to his neck. The victim was taken to the hospital for his injuries, police said. He was later released from the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Authorities identified the suspect as Jose Mejia- Acostas. The investigation showed that the suspect and the victim were inside of an apartment when a fight broke out.

Police said Mejia-Acostas attacked a woman with a knife and tried to stab her in the face. The male victim got in between the two and tried to stop the suspect from hurting other people inside of the apartment.

After a little bit the person who lives in the apartment was able to get everybody out of the apartment and into the stairwell of the building.

Authorities said the victim was walking down the stairs to leave the building when Mejia-Acostas came up behind him and placed his arm and hand around the neck of the victim, and cut the victim's throat. The suspect then ran away.

An arrest warrant charging Mejia-Acostas with attempted first degree murder was issued. Detectives started searching for the suspect right away, however did not find him.

Deputies were able to find and arrest the suspect on Monday in Elizabeth, N.J. without incident, police said.

Police said he is currently in custody in Essex County, N.J. awaiting extradition back to the state of Maryland.
