A Paint Branch High School student is recovering after he was shot Monday morning, according to school officials.
The 17-year old student told police he was walking back to school on Old Columbia Pike after buying something at a nearby convenience store. It was shortly before 9 a.m. when he heard a gun shot. Next, he felt stinging pain. The student then walked to the nearby Burtonsville Volunteer Fire Department for help.
Authorities said a bullet grazed the student’s cheek and ear. Thankfully, the 11th-grader is going to be OK.
Montgomery County Police said they’re investigating and there’s no danger to the school community. They believe this wasn't random and the victim and suspect(s) knew each other.
There was an increased security presence at the school Monday to support students. The school’s principal sent a letter to parents making them aware of the situation.
