ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WUSA9) — Officials from the Maryland Democratic Party issued a statement Sunday after learning the Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) failed to forward more than 18,000 updated voter records to the State Board of Elections.
Party officials said they want to reassure voters that despite not having an updated address on record, they are still able to cast a provisional ballot.
In the statement, Chair Kathleen Matthews said, “The Maryland Democratic Party wants all affected voters who updated their registration through the MVA to know that they are eligible to vote, even if your updated information does not appear in the poll book. Affected voters should cast a provisional ballot at the polling place for their current address. Provisional ballots from eligible voters are counted."
She added, "Additionally, the Democratic Party’s attorneys will be staffing a voter protection hotline on Election Day and will be ready to help anyone experiencing issues. Voters who experience difficulty casting their ballot on Election Day should call 1-888-678-8683 to speak with one of the party’s experienced voter protection attorneys.”
