HYATTSVILLE, Md. — Three boys were arrested around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday after police found one with weapons at Northwestern High School.
A teacher spotted a boy inside the school and noted that he appeared to be hiding a weapon under his clothes, Hyattsville Police said. Afterward, officers found a group of three teens who were involved and discovered that one student had brass knuckles and several bullets.
Two of the suspects involved are students at the high school, while the third is a previous student who has not yet enrolled for this school year, the department confirmed.
The young man who is not a student currently faces charges under state law, while school administrators work to handle the two students per school administrative policy.
It is unclear at this time how the other two teens were involved in the incident.
"Due to the assessed level of threat, Northwestern High School was not placed on lockdown but HPD officers are at the school investigating," the department posted in a statement. "We want to thank the NWHS teacher who was vigilant and is helping to keep students and staff safe at school."
