Police have said that the man shot has been identified as 20-year-old Tyler Ray Marini Sater from Stoney Beach, Anne Arundel County.

ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, Md. — Police have identified a man who officers tased multiple times and then shot on Dec. 19, leaving him in critical condition at a trauma center after he was suspected of car theft.

The man has been identified as 20-year-old Tyler Ray Marini Sater from Stoney Beach, Anne Arundel County. Sater is now facing numerous criminal charges.

Sgt. Timothy Wesner, who police identified as a 10-year veteran of the agency, was identified as the officer who shot Sater. Per policy, Sgt. Wesner is on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

At 9:32 p.m. Monday, deputies responded to a California, Maryland Wawa for a reported stolen car in the 23400 block of Three Notch Road. Deputies found the car near a shopping center and saw a man matching the suspect's description, they said.

Police have said that the alleged suspect ran when he saw officers and went on to say they chased after the man and tased him multiple times, with no effect.

Police then say the man tried to carjack someone outside a restaurant in the Wildewood shopping center, but the car owner got away before he was successful. The man continued running and then got in another running car before Sgt. Wesner shot him twice, according to police.
