Man sought in string of thefts in Montgomery Co. schools

Montgomery County police are looking for a man they said is responsible for a slew of stolen purses and wallets from schools and daycares around the area.

Montgomery County police are looking for a man they said is responsible for a slew of stolen purses and wallets from schools and daycares around the area.

The man is accused of stealing items from at least 11 employees who work at numerous schools in the Montgomery County district.

According to police, the suspect enters the school and looks for vacant classrooms or rooms. From there, police say he takes victims purses or steals the cash and credit cards found inside.

Some of the staff members have encountered the suspect and he told them that he was either a camp counselor or a member of the cleaning staff.

Over $13,000 has been used on the victims’ cards in such places as Safeway, Target, Best Buy and Giant. The suspect also stole roughly $500 in cash.

These thefts remain under investigation. Anyone with information about this suspect or these thefts is asked to contact 2nd District detectives at 240-773-6710. For those who wish to remain anonymous, Crime Solvers of Montgomery County is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for any information that leads to the arrest of the unknown suspect.
