WHEATON-GLENMONT, Md. — A 21-year-old man is facing charges after police said he repeatedly broke into and stole from businesses at the Westfield Wheaton Shopping Center.
According to the Montgomery County Department of Police, Joe Ramsey, of Washington D.C., has been arrested and charged with multiple commercial burglaries after receiving an anonymous tip through Crime Solvers.
The first reported burglary happened on April 3. Officers said Ramsey walked into the mall shortly before 8:15 a.m. and broke into a stand-alone, Cellairis kiosk. He reportedly got away with store property and an undisclosed amount of cash before leaving.
Months later, police say Ramsey returned to the shopping center on August 15 around 8 a.m. He allegedly walked around the Toy World kiosk before stealing money from the business and walking away. Police said he then walked around the shopping center looking at other kiosks before going to Rico's Ice Cream, jumping over the counter, opening the register and getting away with an undisclosed amount of cash.
The anonymous tip submitted through Crime Solvers helped officers identify Ramsey as the suspect. He was arrested on Wednesday and taken to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where he was charged with multiple burglary and theft-related offenses. He is currently being held without bond.
