MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. — Police have arrested a D.C. man in connection to the armed robbery of a mail carrier in Montgomery County, Maryland.
According to a release from the Montgomery County Department of Police (MCPD), 41-year-old Harold Barnes is accused of robbing a U.S. Postal carrier on Jan. 23.
Officials say the robbery happened in the 800 block of Hudson Avenue in Silver Spring.
MCPD detectives and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service believe Barnes pointed a gun at the mail carrier and demanded the carrier hand over his property. After the mail carrier handed over what he had, Barnes reportedly left.
Officers later pulled over a reportedly stolen 2017 Hyundai Tucson, driven by Barnes. He was taken into custody and officers say they found property belonging to the mail carrier inside the stolen Hyundai.
Barnes was arrested and charged with armed robbery, first-degree assault and use of firearm in the commission of violent crime.
Postal Inspectors are investigating after several mail carriers were robbed within 24 hours, some at gunpoint.
