LANDOVER HILLS, Md. (WUSA9) -- Nearly a week after an attack in Landover Hills that left one man dead, the family of the victim is speaking out about their frustration with the investigation.

"Five o'clock in the morning. Taking a routine walk that he does every morning. Leaves sometimes before even I wake up," Barbara, the victim's aunt said.

So on Wednesday morning, Barbara woke up and looked for her nephew.

"Just trodding back and forth. When my nephew going to come home because he never stay out late," Barbara said.

He never came home. Police say just after 5 a.m. Carlos Earl Clayton was gunned down on the side of Cooper Lane. They're trying to figure it why

"Our detectives have leads to an arrest," a spokesperson for Prince George's County police said.

Clayton's family and friends believe he was just walking home.

On Monday night all along Cooper Lane, there were people who knew Clayton.

"Every time he's walking around. We would see him at different places," a neighbor said.

"My nine-year-old is broken down," Barry Blackman, a neighbor said.

"He the one that said all the prayers - you know the grace - at family gatherings, and we going to miss that," Renita Clayton Smith, Carlos' aunt said.

All of that pain is peppered with questions for people who might have information and for the police who were at the scene, especially about how long Carlos' body was out in the street.

"The kids had to detour or could not go to school at all because his body was laying out. Flat with nothing over it. I mean just laying there," Barbara said.

"We are not understanding why was he out there so long," Renita Clayton Smith said.

A spokesperson for the police department says they're were trying to preserve evidence

"You don't want to disturb the body in a case like this because there could be substantial evidence left on the body," the spokesperson said.

The family says they haven't heard any of that that. But right now, all their main concern is seeing an arrest

"I just please please and pray," Barbara said. So would someone please come forward."
