WASHINGTON — Kourtni Smith celebrated Christmas with her family in Florida at Disney World. The day was especially joyful because her doctors said she wouldn't live to see it.
In November, WUSA9 told you about 34-year-old Smith's Stage 4 breast cancer diagnosis. Instead of just looking toward the end, she's living her best life and the mother of five celebrated Christmas at Disney World.
Since WUSA9 brought you her story, a GoFundMe page raised more than $112,000 for her family, and a D.C.-based funeral home offered to cover her funeral expenses.
Christina Mason, owner of Roger J Mason Funeral in Northwest, D.C., said she saw WUSA9's recent coverage about how Smith is preparing her family for her death. Mason offered to cover all Smith's funeral costs.
While Smith said she has been contacted by several funeral homes, she had not yet made a decision on who she wants to handle her burial.
Smith told WUSA9 from Florida that she was feeling good and glad to be making memories with her family.
"Merry Christmas Leslie," Smith wrote to WUSA9's Leslie Moreno, who told her story. "I'm so grateful for you! Make sure you mention that they told me I wasn't supposed to make it to see Christmas!! Look at me Leslie. Also, my hospice transferred here to Orlando for the time I'm here just in case."
