PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, Md. — Rose Valley Elementary School’s Kathy Russell was named Prince George’s County Teacher of the Year Monday, according to Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS). The honor comes with not only prestige, but a three-year car lease.
“It is entirely fitting that Mrs. Russell has been selected as this year’s Teacher of the Year," said Millard House II, Prince George’s County superintendent.
Russell has been dedicated to Prince George’s County students for 26 years, according to PGCPS. The reading and language arts teacher was nominated by her peers for her “outstanding teaching skills, passion for education and mentorship,” PGCPS said.
Russell is now in the running for Maryland Teacher of the Year, which will be announced in the fall.
