3 deaths in 3 days at a Montgomery County Correctional Facility

According to the DOCR, each death was completely unrelated to one another.

CLARKSBURG, Md. — The Department of Correction and Rehabilitation (DOCR) has recently experienced three consecutive deaths in the last week. According to the DOCR, each death was completely unrelated to one another.

In a statement released by the facility, they offered their condolences to the families of the deceased and explained the events leading up to each death based on the information they know so far.

On Tuesday, January 9 at 4:30 p.m. an inmate being held at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility in Clarksburg Medical Unit was found unresponsive. Nurses and staff began performing life-saving measures on the incarcerated individual until first responders could arrive at the facility.

Once first responders were at the Clarksburg Medical Unit, they transported the victim to Holy Cross Hospital. On Wednesday at 9 a.m., staff at the Clarksburg facility received a call from the hospital informing them that the victim would likely not make it. By 12:30 p.m., the victim had passed away.

Later that same day, just before 10:45 p.m., the DOCR received another phone call from Holy Cross Hospital about a different inmate who had passed away. The inmate had been receiving treatment since January 3, 2023. According to records, this individual had received a severe medical diagnosis prior to their passing.

Then, on Thursday, January 11, just after 4:30 p.m., medical emergency staff at the Clarksburg facility were called to the housing unit for a third victim. Once there, staff immediately began life-saving measures, unfortunately the victim did not survive and was pronounced dead at 5:07 p.m.

A preliminary investigation was done on all of the victims and according to the MCPD there were no signs of foul play with either of the victims. In the statement released they said the deaths appear to have been medical situations. But they will not have a final cause of death until the medical examiner conducts autopsies and releases the reviews.
