PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, Md. — Police have arrested a 63-year-old woman for a deadly hit-and-run crash that happened on Interstate 95 in Prince George's County earlier this month. Maryland State Police troopers say Lidia Parada Benitez has been arrested in connection to the Dec. 4 crash that left 23-year-old Ceasar Burke.
Burke was hit by two cars, according to Maryland State Police, and one of the drivers, later identified as Benitez, left the scene. Initially, police believed a third vehicle -- a tractor-trailer -- had also hit Burke and drove away, but they say that is no longer the case.
Investigators said the crash happened just before 10 p.m. when Burke and a woman were parked on the shoulder of the road and having a discussion outside the car. During the course of the conversation the woman walked out onto the highway. While in the road trying to pull the woman back, he was hit by Benitez, who was driving a Nissan Altima.
Troopers arrested Benitez following a traffic stop at 5:54 p.m. Wednesday night at Hollins Ferry Road north of I-695 in Baltimore. She was transported to the Maryland State Police College Park Barrack for processing before being transferred to the Prince George’s County Detention Center.
Benitez is charged with leaving the scene of an injury collision and failing to report the collision to police.
