How you can help a youth football team get to national championships in Florida

The team needs your help to reach its $45,000 goal.

ROSEDALE, Va. — For the second year in a row, the Rosedale Tigers 6U finished the season undefeated, winning their state championship and getting the chance to play for the National Championship in Naples, Florida.

WUSA9 first introduced you to the Rosedale Tigers in 2018 when their newly formed team needed equipment so the could compete. The team didn't have the funds to buy new helmets, pads and uniforms so they reached out to WUSA's Impact Team, and we surprised them with new gear.

In 2022, we revisited the team who were then trying to raise money to play in the National Youth Football Tournament in Kissimmee, Florida. The team achieved the goal on Thanksgiving morning, raising $30,000 to cover travel expenses.

Now, we are hoping lightning can strike twice as the team once again raises money to help cover the trip to Florida.

"My children have hearts of Tigers," said coach Chris Alston on GoFundMe.

Alston explained on the fundraising website that most of the team is comprised of first-time players.

"All of my children work so hard to make it this far all while fighting against any and all odds outside of football," the coach said. "This is not just about football, this is about giving my children an experience they will never forget."

Coach Anderson says the team has raised $20,000 through donations so far, but is still short of its $45,000 goal. Click here to donate.

"No donation is too small," said Alston. "We are very thankful for any and all support."
