BROOKEVILLE, Md. — Five people are displaced after a home was struck by lightning in Brookeville Thursday evening.
According to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Spokesman Pete Piringer, the two-story house in the 21600 block of Gentry Lane was hit around 5:45 p.m.
All the occupants of the home evacuated and crews reported seeing smoke coming from the basement.
Fire officials believe the lightning struck out front, causing an electrical surge and likely explosion in the basement.
There was some structural damage to the home and BGE has secured power to the house. Five people have been displaced.
No injuries have been reported.
