Person trying to help others in I-495 crash struck, killed

Another person was taken to a local hospital to be treated for injuries sustained in the collision.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, Md. — Back-to-back crashes late Tuesday night left I-495 backed up and one person dead in Prince George's County.

Troopers with Maryland State Police (MSP)'s College Park Barrack responded to the outer loop of Interstate 495 south of U.S. Route 50 just before midnight for a multi-vehicle crash.

Through an initial investigation, it was determined that a Toyota Camry struck a Toyota Sienna and both vehicles became disabled. A driver of a third vehicle saw the broken down vehicles and stopped to assist. At the same time, a tractor-trailer was traveling in the area and hit the Camry, which then struck the Good Samaritan.

The man was pronounced dead at the crash site by EMS. No information has been released about his identity, this includes his name, age and where he is from.

The driver of the Camry was taken to a local hospital to be treated for her injuries.

The MSP's Crash Team and troopers from the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division responded to the scene to investigate the cause of the collision.
