Construction worker struck by driver critically injured in Pasadena

Officials are urging drivers to slow down in construction sites.

PASADENA, Md. -- A construction worker has life-threatening injuries after she struck by a driver Tuesday in Anne Arundel County.

The accident happened just before 11 a.m. Tuesday on Pasadena Road near Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard in Pasadena.

A driver in a Chevrolet was eastbound on Pasadena Road. Traffic was reduced to one lane due to construction on Pasadena Road.

A construction worker was controlling traffic using a rotating stop/slow sign. The driver did not see the construction worker and struck her near the right edge of the roadway, police said.

The worker, a 30-year-old Baltimore woman, was taken to an area trauma center with life-threatening injuries.

The driver, a 26-year-old Pasadena man, remained at the scene. He was not injured.

Authorities said the preliminary cause of the crash appears to be the driver’s failure to observe the construction worker. There is no indication of excessive speed or alcohol use by the driver.

Officials said the Traffic Safety Section is handing the investigation and the case will be reviewed by the state's attorney.
