GAITHERSBURG, Md. — Adventist HealthCare's hospitals rang in the new year with the birth of some of the D.C. area’s first babies of 2020!

At 2:43 a.m., Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center in Rockville helped parents Anita Boadi and Bernard Acguah of Germantown welcome a baby boy, named Jayden, who weighed 7 lbs. 11 oz.

Minutes later, at 3 a.m., Adventist HealthCare White Oak Medical Center in Silver Spring delivered a baby boy, named Antony Josias Cabrera, weighing 8 lbs. 4 oz. to mom Evelyn Maribel Cabrera Rivera and dad Geyson Antony Lopez Cabrera, of Hyattsville.

According to the hospital, the moms and babies are happy, healthy and recovering at the hospitals.

The New Year’s babies and their parents will receive gift baskets filled with toys, books, and baby essentials to help them celebrate being 2020’s first arrivals.

"What a joy to welcome the first baby of 2020 at our Birth Center," Nan Troiano, Shady Grove Medical Center’s director of Women and Infant Services said. "Our team looks forward to adding many more babies to our Shady Grove family in the coming year."

Shady Grove Medical Center, according to Troiano, delivers approximately 5,000 babies each year and offers a Level III neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) for babies who need specialized care when they arrive.

"This is another special milestone for us within the span of a few months," Keisha Walker, White Oak Medical Center’s director of Women and Infant Services said. "In August, White Oak Medical Center celebrated the arrival of its first baby born at our new hospital, which relocated from Takoma Park, and now we welcome our first baby of the new year!"

White Oak Medical Center, located in Silver Spring, opened its 180-bed hospital on Aug. 25.
