Firefighters battle large brush fire along Baltimore-Washington Parkway

Police are asking people to use caution and to drive slow.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, Md. (WUSA9) — Prince George’s County firefighters have contained a large brush fire along the Baltimore-Washington Parkway in area of Powder Mill Road in the Beltsville/Laurel area.

Only 1 southbound left land is open between Rt. 197 and Powder Mill Rd. as fire trunks remain putting out a few smaller fires.

There have been no structural damages or injuries.

According to Chief Spokesperson for the fire department, Mark Brady, the fire spread rapidly on Sunday.

The fire department said that water tankers, engines and numerous units were called to battle the blaze, with some units working within the backyards on Springfield Road.

Police are asking people to use caution and to drive slow.
