ROCKVILLE, Md. — Over 90 firefighters responded to a Rockville building Thursday morning to tackle a large fire, which resulted in a road being closed to commuters.
Spokesperson with the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services Pete Piringer says firefighters responded to Lofstrand Lane, between Taft Street and Southlawn Lane, around 5:20 a.m. after a report of a commercial building fire. Upon arrival, they found a significant amount of fire coming from the roof of the building.
Around 6:10 a.m., a second alarm was called on the fire, which was determined to be at a strip mall. The fire impacted the laundromat and auto body shop at the strip mall, as well as some parked vehicles.
At 6:15 a.m., the fire was 50% knocked down, with 95 firefighters at the scene working to battle the flames. According to the fire department, no one has been injured in the fire.
As of 8:05 a.m., the fire was completely knocked down. Piringer said there was significant damage to the buildings and that it appears as though the fire had burned for a while before it was discovered.
Though the fire is under control, some firefighters remain at the scene to work on hot spots in the area.
No details have been released on what started the blaze. The investigation into the fire is active and ongoing.
According to the Montgomery County Department of Police, Lofstrand Lane was shut down from Taft Street to Southlawn Lane while firefighters fought the fire.
