Fire in Prince George's County leaves 15 people without a home

"Grateful for our first responder heroes—who know, all too well, that emergencies and disasters don’t take a break for the holidays," the Red Cross said.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, Md. — Fifteen people are without a home less than a week away from Christmas Day after a fire broke out at a three-story multi-family building in Prince George's County early Wednesday morning.

Firefighters with the Prince George's County Fire and EMS Department responded to Prince Place, Harry S. Truman Drive, in Largo just before 4 a.m. after a report of a structure fire in the area. When crews arrived at the scene they could see fire showing from the bottom floor of the garden-style multi-family home.

Around 4:30 a.m., the fire department stated in a tweet that the fire was extinguished, but crews were still at the scene. No injuries were reported amongst residents or firefighters due to the fire.

The fire department said that 15 residents have been displaced due to the damage caused to the building. The Red Cross of the National Capital and Greater Chesapeake Region (NCGC) will be assisting the residents with next steps.

"Grateful for our first responder heroes—who know, all too well, that emergencies and disasters don’t take a break for the holidays," Red Cross NCGC said in a tweet. "Thanks for all you do and stay safe!"
