LANHAM, Md. — Jayda Medrano-Moore, 16, was shot to death after a fight broke out between two groups of high school students near DuVal High in 2023. On Wednesday, police announced three more people have been charged in connection to her death.
In the days following Jayda's death, police arrested a 17-year-old boy.
"We just, we just like miss her," Jayda's father Glen Reid said. "You know we miss her."
Five and a half months after his daughter was shot and killed walking home from school, Reid is still searching for answers that don't come any easier with a suspected shooter in custody.
"Why did this happen," asked Reid. "Why?"
According to investigators, Jayda was walking home from school on Sept. 11, 2023, when the fight began. She and her brother were caught in the fight and when one teen pulled out a gun Jayda stepped up to protect her brother. She was shot and killed.
"Jayda did something you know, normal kids wouldn't do. You know what I mean," said Reid. "She just try to diffuse the situation."
On Wednesday, Jayda's father got a surprise call from police.
"It was a shock, but it was a good shock," he said.
Police made three more arrests of two 18-year-old men, Ramon Richardson and Cameron Anderson, and another 17-year-old boy.
Police have not said how the teens just arrested were allegedly involved, but all four are facing murder charges.
Jayda's father credits police work and the community.
"I just want to thank those people that stood up and, and gave those officers their statements. And, you know, it helped to lead to the arrest of these individuals," he said. "We definitely miss her. Because, you know, she could have been someone, you know, very special."
