BOYDS, Md. (WUSA9) -- A young Maryland woman is dead and a young Maryland man is in critical condition Wednesday night after a two-car accident where alcohol may have been a factor in Montgomery County.

23-year-old Tiffany Bein was killed Tuesday evening after the SUV she was traveling on Darnestown Road near Whites Ferry Road in Boyds, Md. collided with a sedan and then struck a tree. Police say Bein was ejected from the vehicle and succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.

"It was devastating. you know, as a parent you never expect to hear the news that this is gonna - that you're never going to see your child again," Jenny Bein, Tiffany's mother said.

Police say Bein's boyfriend was driving the SUV, with Bein and another passenger, when it crossed the center line on Darnestown and hit the sedan.

"As a result of that the Chevy SUV left the roadway and overturned and we had at least one patient ejected and another who was initially trapped," Montgomery County police Lt. Paul Liquorie said.

A passerby stopped to help, freeing the trapped victim. It's something friends and family say Bein would have done.

"She was just a little ball of fire what I like to call her. Right at 5-foot-tall she was, you know, just full of life," Jenny Bein said. "She just wanted to be happy, just like any other 23-year-old. and trying to find her own two feet in the world."

"She just a good heart. She'd do anything for anyone."

Until then, Tiffany spent her time taking care of kids, with plans of her own.

"She always wanted a family of her own and her own child to love to hold and, it's sad, as a mother I won't ever be able to see that with my baby," Jenny Bein said.

John Reyes, the other passenger in the SUV, is still in the hospital in critical condition. A friend told WUSA9 the 23-year-old is fighting for his life.

The driver of the SUV, who police identified as Torray James Jr. of Baltimore, suffered non-life threatening injuries. The driver and two passengers in the sedan all suffered minor injuries.
