Family displaced after fire at Montgomery County home

The fire was in the basement of a two-story home.

SOUTH KENSINGTON, Md. — A family is without a home after an early Wednesday morning fire in South Kensington.

Firefighters with the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services Department responded to Parkwood Drive, off of Knowles Avenue, around 5:40 a.m. for a report of a house fire. Upon arrival, they found a two-story family home with smoke billowing out and fire in the basement.

At the scene, 55 firefighters reported to the location and was able to get the bulk of the fire knocked down just before 6 a.m. They then checked for any extending fire anywhere else in the home. Around 6:45 a.m., the fire was completely put out.

The family, which consists of two adults, two kids, and a dog, were all able to get out of the home and did not sustain any injuries. They were evaluated and Red Cross is assisting them with their displacement.
