WASHINGTON -- Embattled Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh has resigned Thursday, following the recent book scandal and the FBI raiding two of her homes and City Hall.
Pugh's attorney Steve Silverman held a news conference Thursday afternoon at his downtown law office to announce her resignation.
The scandal stems from Pugh receiving roughly $800,000 from a hospital network for copies of her self-published "Healthy Holly" children's books.
Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan called for Pugh to resign hours after the FBI searched her homes and City Hall on April 25.
Baltimore needs "strong and responsible leadership," Hogan said in a press release. "Mayor Pugh has lost the public trust. She is clearly not fit to lead."
Pugh has been on a leave of absence since April 1 after battling pneumonia.
