CHEVY CHASE, Md. — A routine morning took a terrifying turn in Chevy Chase when a car crashed through a parking garage barrier and plummeted an estimated 40 feet to the ground. The Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) responded to the crash near the Barlow Building at 5454 Wisconsin Avenue, close to Montgomery Avenue, and found the car overturned on its roof.
At 9 a.m., a driver reportedly broke through the fifth-floor railing of the parking garage at The Hills Plaza, careening down before landing the cart on its roof between South Park Avenue and Willard Avenue. The collision not only drew an emergency response but also left onlookers shocked by the sight of the mangled car lying upside-down on the pavement.
The sole occupant of the car managed to get themselves out before first responders arrived, despite the severity of the fall. MCFRS emergency medical teams assessed the driver, who was injured from the crash. Fortunately, they are expected to survive.
Images from the crash reveal a chaotic aftermath, with the car heavily damaged. The MCFRS advises that the area be avoided as they investigate the cause of this unprecedented fall from such a height.
