2 dogs dead after townhouse catches fire, 2 families with children displaced

Firefighters were originally called to a townhouse for reports of a deck with a propane tank on fire.

GERMANTOWN, Md. — Two families are displaced and two dogs have died after a townhouse fire in Germantown Monday afternoon.

According to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue, crews were called to a townhome in the 20200 block of Thunderhead Way around 2 p.m. for reports of a propane tank on a deck caught on fire.

When firefighters arrived, they found the flames had spread to the basement and attic of the home and the two dogs were trapped inside.

The fire was contained but the floor collapsed and the dogs were never found, according to MCFR.

Two families with children were displaced from the two units the fire spread through. This includes 6 adults and 3 children.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
