Dog maims delivery driver, bites off part of his ear, lunges at officer in Prince George's Co. before it's shot

The dog, an American Bulldog, later died when it was shot after attacking a delivery driver, lunging at an Animal Control officer, police said.

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. — A dog that attacked and maimed a food delivery driver and then lunged at a Prince George’s County Animal Control officer was fatally shot by a Prince George’s County police officer, officials said.

Officers were called around 5:30 p.m. Sunday to the 3600 block of Endsley Place in the unincorporated portion of Upper Marlboro on the report of animal bite.

A dog attacked a man who was delivering food at home in the area, biting off part of the victim's ear. The dog also bit the victim's neck and face multiple times, police said.

When an Animal Control officer tried to captured the dog, it broke free and prepared to lunge at that Animal Control officer. That’s when a Prince George’s County officer shot the dog with his weapon. The dog, an American Bulldog, later died, police said.

Officials said the Special Investigative Response Team is investigating the shooting, while the Prince George’s County Animal Control is investigating the dog, and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
