Great Mills HS shooter used his dad's legally-owned gun to shoot former girlfriend

One day after a shooting took place in a hallway at Great Mills High School, one student remains in critical condition at the hospital and another student has been released.

The Great Mills High School shooter used a gun that was legally owned by his father. Police say he was involved in a previous relationship with the 16-year-old victim.

The shooter, 17-year-old Austin Wyatt Rollins died. Jaelynn Willey, 16, is in critical condition and a 14-year-old boy, who was injured in the shooting, has reunited with his family.

On Wednesday, police released information stating that the relationship between Rollins and Willey had recently ended.

The school resource officer who quickly reacted and shot at Rollins is being hailed a hero. At this time is it still unclear whether the shooter was shot by the officer or if he shot himself. The officer was not injured during the shooting.

Questions still remain in the incident, including the motive of the shooting. Officials said there is surveillance video of the shooting and it is being used in the investigation.

Neighbors, family and friends came together Tuesday night to pray for all those impacted.

This shooting comes only days before the March for Our Lives, where hundreds of thousands of kids and families are expected to take to the streets and around the country to protest gun violence and mass shootings in schools.

According to the schools' website, Great Mills High School will be closed until Monday, April 2, 2018.
